Pouring Precious Metal

Pouring gold and silver is a process that does not allow any margin of error. Many critical factors have to come together to make the pour successful. The temperature of both the flask and molten precious metal have to be correct. There is not one formula that works for all pours. The mass, size and shape of the empty cavity you are trying to fill has to be taken into account when judging the flask temperature and the molten precious metal temperature. Too cold ...the cavity will not fill properly. Too hot ...the surface of the cooled metal will not provide a high polish. Pouring for success can only be accomplished by "tuning in" to the process.
