1. What kind of metal is used to create Bowman Originals Jewelry?
At Bowman Originals, we exclusively use solid Sterling Silver and solid 18k Gold in all our designs. The white metal is Sterling Silver; the yellow metal is 18k Gold—never plated or filled.
Sterling Silver: .925 fine, meaning 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% pure copper for strength and hypoallergenic quality.
18k Gold: .750 fine, composed of 75% pure gold and a custom blend of pure silver and copper for color stability and skin safety.
Solid Metals: "Solid" means the metal is the same throughout—not plated, bonded, or filled. We do not use any filler or mystery metals, which are often responsible for allergic reactions.
2. Who makes this jewelry? Who designs it?
Every piece is handcrafted by a small team of skilled artisans in Sarasota, Florida—no computers or mass production. As we say: “By Hands Only” and “We’re going backward—and proud of it.”
Ned Bowman, our founder and lead designer, is a national and international DeBeers award-winning jeweler whose vision defines every collection.
3. Are all the stones genuine?
Yes—all stones in our inventory jewelry are 100% genuine. We do not use synthetic, simulated, or substitute stones.
Please Note: Custom orders may include sentimental stones provided by clients, which may not always be natural. Any stones sourced by Bowman Originals are always authentic.
4. What is the inspiration for Bowman Originals Jewelry?
Our designs draw from ancient history, mythology, and cultural anthropology. Each piece carries symbolic meaning—from ancient talismans to modern heirlooms—expressing protection, love, remembrance, and identity through rich symbolism and artisan detail.
5. What is Vitreous Enamel?
Vitreous enamel—also known as hard enamel, hot enamel, or true enamel—is created by fusing finely ground glass to metal at temperatures between 1,400°F and 1,600°F. This ancient technique results in brilliant, permanent color that will not fade, discolor, or wear away, making it ideal for heirloom-quality jewelry.
6. How does Vitreous Enamel differ from other enamels?
Unlike resin enamel, which is made from synthetic polymers and may yellow or scratch, vitreous enamel is fused glass that will not tarnish, crack, or fade. Its durability and brilliance last for generations.
7. What is Patina?
Patina is the natural or intentionally applied surface coloration that forms on metal over time. It adds depth, character, and warmth—transforming polished silver into a richly textured surface that reflects age, wear, and individuality.
8. How does Bowman Originals utilize patina in its jewelry?
We apply patina by oxidizing and hand-polishing each piece to create a high-contrast finish. This darkens recessed areas while allowing raised details to shine. The result is a timeless, personalized look that evolves gently with wear—enhancing the handcrafted beauty of each design.
9. How do I clean my Bowman Originals jewelry?
Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Never use strong silver polishes, chemicals, or ultrasonic machines.
Use a Soft Cloth: A dry or slightly damp jewelry cloth removes oils and fingerprints without disturbing the patina.
Store Properly: Keep your jewelry in a dry, soft-lined box or pouch.
Wear It Often: Natural skin oils help maintain the silver's luster.

10. Is there a warranty or guarantee on the jewelry?
