Artist Statement
Artist Statement — Ned Bowman
For more than fifty years, I have devoted my life to the art of jewelry-making, guided by the conviction that each piece should be more than adornment — it should carry meaning, memory, and spirit. Every design begins with inspiration drawn from history, cultural anthropology, mythology, and nature, then takes form at the bench through old-world techniques passed down for generations. I do not use computers to design or create my jewelry. My moto is "By Hands Only".
I work in sterling silver, 18k gold, vitreous enamel, rare minerals and carefully chosen gemstones, not simply for their beauty but for their permanence. Using no computers or mass production, only tools, fire, and hand, I craft jewelry that holds the mark of authenticity and endurance. Each bracelet, necklace, pendant, or earring bears my hallmark — BOWMAN · USA · STER · 18K — a testament to its origin and integrity.
Symbols such as the Laurel Leaf, Fleur-de-Lis, Heart, Sundial, Pegasus, and Lady Godiva are central to my work, each reflecting triumph, devotion, freedom, or eternal renewal. These motifs speak to timeless values that connect us across centuries, cultures, and personal journeys. In this way, jewelry becomes more than an accessory — it becomes a meaningful talisman, a companion, an heirloom.
Designed and handmade in Sarasota, Florida, I remain committed to artistry, honesty, and personal service. My goal is not to create objects for a season, but treasures that endure — crafted with the same integrity that earned me national and international recognition from DeBeers, and built to accompany their wearers through life’s victories, milestones, and quiet moments of strength.
I continue to honor the past while creating for the present, forging jewelry that embodies originality, authenticity, and a promise of beauty that lasts for generations.
"Let your jewelry speak from the heart—layer it, love it, and wear it always."
